Towns in Rhodes

Rhodes is one of the most beautiful and family friendly islands in the whole Dodecanese, and also one of the largest. As such, it is dotted with picturesque, intriguing villages and towns all with their own unique history and selling points. When you book a holiday to Pefkos with Villa Rhodes, you’re also booking a gateway to Rhode’s brilliant towns and villages.

Pefkos

We can’t convince you to book holidays to Pefkos without discussing the village itself! Pefkos, or Pefki to the locals, is situated on a peninsula that is covered with pine trees. In fact, this is where the village gets its name! It is a quiet town, but still offers plenty to see and do and also has stunning natural beaches. Pefkos is an excellent family holiday destination!

Lindos

Located just 4km away from Pefkos, Lindos is steeped in history. It is dominated by ancient Acropolis of Lindos which features artefacts and architecture dating all the way back to the days of Ancient Greece. It is also linked to Pefkos via a Glass Bottom Boat ride which operates daily from Pefkos.

Archangelos

For people looking for a more traditional slice of Greek life while they holiday in Pefkos, Archangelos is the place to be. Situated up the coast from Pefkos, the village is steeped in Greek traditions; bread is still baked in wood-fired ovens, marriages are conducted in the old fashioned way and houses are decorated in traditional Greek manner.

Arnitha

Driving west from Pefkos you’ll eventually stumble upon Arnitha. Arnitha is hidden away in the hills and is populated by small white houses. It offers excellent views of the surrounding countryside from the ancient monastery located nearby. In the centre of the village there is a temple dedicated to St George, the village’s patron saint, and there are plenty of country lanes nearby for walkers to get lost in.

Monolithos

On the opposite coast of Rhodes from Pefkos, Monolithos derives its name from a lonely outcrop of rock atop which stands the ruins of a sturdy Medieval Castle. History lovers can indulge in the island’s past, while others can enjoy some mountainous walks or a drink in one of the quaint taverns nearby.

Siana

Siana is a small village that is famous on Rhodes for its honey and locally produced wine which is a must try. The village also affords excellent views of the Aegean sea and Rhodes’ surrounding islands.

Empona

Empona, or Embona, is located inland and is steeped in folklore. Visit the folklore museum to find out more of the island’s folk traditions. It is also the most important grape producing village on the whole of Rhodes. Come harvest time, the streets are full of baskets of grapes basking in the sun. There is also wine tasting to be found in the village, so it’s well worth the trip from Pefkos.
