What is the transport like in Rhodes?

Rhodes is roughly 1,000km in size so you won’t be able to see all the island has to offer on foot! Even if you plan on just staying around Villa Anna near Pefkos, it’s still best to think about transport in Rhodes and what methods are available.

Travelling in Rhodes, what's the best option?

There are lots of different ways to get about on Rhodes Island, each with their own pros and cons. However, with so much variety, getting around the island is easy;

• Buses – The main form of public transport on Rhodes. The principle bus terminal is located in Rhodes Town on the north of the island, but there are lots of buses from Pefkos to Lindos or Rhodes Town. Bus fares are pretty cheap too, usually under 2 Euros per journey.

• Boats - There are plenty of boat trips available if you want to explore Rhodes’ coast.  For example, a glass bottom boat travels from Pefkos to Lindos daily. Feeling adventurous? Take a trip over to Turkey or other Greek Islands that are nearby!

• Cars – Travelling in Rhodes is best achieved by car. Luckily there are plenty of car hire firms that operate on the island. The major car hire companies can be found at Diagoras International Airport, but there are many independent operates available in Pefkos. Why not treat yourself by renting a nippy convertible?

• Taxis - There are lot of taxis on the Island and they are reasonably priced. They can be easily recognised with their dark blue bodies and white roofs. A list of expected charges can be found at any of the tourist information offices found on Rhodes.

• Bikes – Prefer two wheels to four? There’s plenty of push bike hire so you can get some exercise whilst exploring the island. If you don’t want to pedal, mopeds and motorbikes can be hired at many of the car hire companies.

• Airplanes - If you’re in an exploratory mood, you can fly to other neighbouring Greek Islands such as Crete. It’s not as expensive as you may think!
